Final Performance Assessment
Part Two
Purpose:
To determine the student's ability to sort, classify, and identify similarities and differences of living and non-living things.
 
Objective:
Students will demonstrate their ability to sort and classify living and non-living things. Students will communicate similarities and differences of two selected items.
 
Materials:
Choose 10 items from the suggested list (or use items of your choice) for children to sort.

2 sorting mats (mats can be containers, construction paper, boxes, etc.) Label sorting mats: living and non-living.

Task:
Ask students to sort and classify the collection of objects on the labeled mats. The teacher should record their responses on the student recording sheet.
 
Ask each student to select two items from one mat and describe similarities and differences of each.
 
Criteria:
Students will be assessed on their ability to accurately separate items into three categories and describe similarities and differences of each.
