Publication
-
- Since the publication of the Alabama Course of Study Science
(1995), the Alabama State Board of Education has adopted The
Total Science Safety System, Elementary, ALABAMA edition
(1998), to help teachers and administrators in the process of
"planning, implementing, and evaluating the school science
program." This is available in disk form at your school.
Safety Suggestions for Teachers
- Lesson 7: The teacher should check the seals on the compost
bags prior to distribution to the students.
- Lesson 10: Students should push the cotton balls into the
plastic tubes with a stirrer or eraser end of a pencil. Fingers
can get stuck or cut.
- Conclusion of unit: The earthworms furnished from the HASP
materials center are indigenous to Alabama. These earthworms may
be released into a garden area. For red worms or earthworms
procured from other sources, refer to "Advisory for Releasing the
Red worms," in Soils Teacher's Guide, page 196.
