Mathematics

Conservation: Predict, compare and measure liquids into containers with various shapes; discuss and analyze their observations; have students predict what will happen to the liquids when the containers are placed in the freezer for a few hours; discuss conservation of matter

Language Arts

Add terms to Solids & Liquids Dictionary page and word bank of adjectives

Extensions

Place sand and different shaped containers in the learning center and encourage students to explore and discuss what happens when the sand is poured from one container to another; write answers to the questions: "Does the sand take the shape of the container? Is sand a liquid or solid? How do you know?"

Fill glasses with different amounts of water and show students how to make music by tapping the glass gently with a metal utensil

Try filling the glasses with other liquids (oil, corn syrup) to see if the volume changes

Bring in containers of different sizes and shapes; place in learning center where students explore pouring liquids from one container to another
