It is a proven fact that a hungry child cannot learn!
The employees of the Decatur City Schools Child Nutrition Program
are committed to protecting and enhancing children’s health
and well being by serving nutritious, tasty and affordable meals.
We feel that child nutrition programs are an integral part of the
school environment. Nutrition influences a child’s development,
lifelong health status, and potential for learning. We strive to
protect the health and well being of our children and to help them
succeed in the classroom by providing balanced and nutritious meals
served in a courteously and friendly atmosphere in a sanitary dining
environment. To realize excellence in education, we share a responsibility
to ensure children come to school ready to learn. Nutrition plays
an integral part in that responsibility. The goal to meet the nutritional
needs of the students and staff of Decatur City Schools are pursued
in a professional, efficient and fiscally sound and responsible
manner.
The Decatur City Schools Child Nutrition Program is proud that
each of our 17 schools offers students breakfast and lunch. Approximately
3,500 breakfast and 7,000 lunches are served to our students on
a daily basis. All items offered in our cafeterias are in compliance
with USDA federal and state regulations and managed in accordance
with the regulations and policies for the National School Breakfast
and Lunch Programs.
