Parents
The Decatur City School System has offered our son's (Jake & JP)
a tremendous opportunity for education both inside and outside
the classroom. From robotics class to football, we have been pleased.
We moved here several years ago and could have settled anywhere
in this portion of Alabama. We chose Decatur based on the size
of the town as well as the information relative to the quality
of the school system. I am comfortable that after 10 years in the
Decatur City School System that we made the correct choice.

All three of my children have attended the DCS Magnet program,
and the entire magnet experience has been outstanding. The teachers
make sure that they not only prepare children for their upcoming
grades, but allow those who are capable to move as rapidly as possible.
My children have been able to move ahead in math due
to the outstanding instruction provided by their teachers. I would
highly recommend the DCS magnet program for those parents interested
in accelerated programs and great individual attention for their
children.

I have experienced Decatur City Schools as a student,
parent and educator. I attended elementary, middle and high school
in Decatur.
Both of my children, ages 11 and 14, attend school in the Decatur
system. I have had the opportunity to share in the education of
area students through career development consulting. I also have
first hand knowledge of the educational and administrative leadership
strategies.
Through the years it has been obvious that Decatur City Schools
are driven to excel in the education arena. With constant training,
current concepts and cutting-edge curriculum, Decatur City Schools
have been a model for school systems around the country. However,
those things, in my opinion, do not holistically define this school
system. What sets Decatur City Schools apart from other school
systems is their passion to invest in our children and their families.
The administration, educators and support staff all understand
the importance of their call to make a difference in the lives
of students and parents. I should know, because I have experienced
their excellence in my life and in the lives of my children.

Our children attended Chestnut Grove Elementary,
Cedar Ridge Middle School and Austin High School. We moved to Decatur
in 1992 knowing nothing about the school system here. After much
consideration, we chose to buy a house in the Chestnut Grove district.
Our opinion, though probably biased, is that we could not have
made a more perfect choice for our family. The teachers and staff
at every school we have attended have truly cared about and for
our two boys. The administration at each of these schools has made
themselves available when we had a problem and has assisted us
in resolving any issue we brought to them.
We lived in Phoenix, Arizona for a year (1994-1995) and the
comments from the teachers at the school there (which was rated
as one of the top schools in the U.S.) was that our children
were excelling academically. They were surprised to learn that
we had moved from Alabama.
We were
extremely fortunate to be able to return to Decatur in 1995 and
enrolled our boys in the same district we were in previously. Thank
you Decatur City Schools for giving our children a strong academic
base to build upon.
