PTA Programs
Reflections
National PTA believes that all children deserve a quality arts
education and encourages students to pursue artistic expression
through participation in its annual Reflections Program. The
program offers students the opportunity to create works of art
for fun and recognition. Students in preschool through grade
12 are encouraged to submit works of art in four areas: literature,
musical composition, photography, and the visual arts (which includes
art forms such as drawing, painting, print making and collage). In
its more than 30-year history, the program has encouraged millions
of students across the nation and in American schools overseas
to explore their artistic talents.
Each year, the Reflections Program challenges students to create
art that supports a specific theme. Themes are selected from
thousands of ideas submitted by students to the National PTA’s
Reflections Program Theme Search. Past themes have included “Dare
to Discover…”, “If I Could Give the World a
Gift…”, “Imagine That…” and “Exploring
New Beginnings….” The theme for the 2004-2005
program is “A Different Kind of Hero”.
Students participate in the Reflections Program by submitting
entries to the PTA at their school.
ParTicipAte
The Decatur City Council of PTAs is blessed to have the support
of many of our area businesses through the ParTicipAte Program. As
an incentive to join PTA, area merchants offer discounts and special
offers to patrons who show their PTA card. Download a list of ParTicipAte
Members.
Breakfast with Santa
The Decatur City Council of PTAs Breakfast with Santa is an annual
event highly anticipated by our children. Each year in December,
children are invited to come have breakfast, make a craft, listen
to holiday music performed by our area high schools, and, of course,
have their picture made with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The $5.00
admission fee goes to provide scholarships to two area high school
seniors, one from each high school.
Thumbody
The Thumbody Program is held in conjunction with the Mental Health
Association in our elementary schools. The program is designed
to teach self-confidence to our children at an early age. The
children watch a video and play games designed to help them learn
to make good choices and resist peer pressure while showing them
that they are unique and valuable.
