First Grade Quest
We recently had so much fun reading the book "Frindle" by Andrew Clements. A mischievous boy named Nick learns all about the dictionary and how words become words. He begins an experiment by creating the word 'frindle' for 'pen' and starts a major commotion in his school, town, and eventually Webster's Dictionary.
Students had so much fun learning how to use the dictionary and creating their own made-up class "Fictionary" of words that they invented. They learned to use the pronunciation guide, a little about parts of speech, and how to create an entry. Come by and see our own Fictionary. Some students even had their words published online.
We think you'll love the book "Frindle"! |

Mrs. Granger turned her eyes 'full power' when she was upset with Nick in her classroom. This is what we think she looked like (based on the looks we have gotten when we were in trouble.) |
