Farm Animal Sculptures & Working Farm Designs This unit worked with our studies of the element of art FORM. |
|
First grade brainstormed animals found on a farm and created a medallion with their favorite animal on it. This was a fun tactile experience! Students flattened a ball of clay, poked a hole at the top, and created their animal drawing. Once the animals were dry they were painted with acrylics and sealed with an acrylic spray. Students then picked out beads and string and completed their necklace. |
Second grade brainstormed animals found on a farm and then sculpted their favorite. Students learned how to work from a ball of air dry clay, pull and shape the limbs, and add texture to complete their figure. Once the animals were dry they were painted with acrylics and sealed with an acrylic spray. |

CREATING A WORKING FARM Students brainstormed what makes a basic working farm - animals, farmers, buildings, crops, water source, and simple/complex machines. Their project was to create their own working farm using their imagination. Their ideas ranged from farms of the past, the future, on other planets, with candy crops, and new creatures. |
