CHINA:

BLUE AND WHITE MING BOWLS

First through fifth grade studied a brief history of China in Art and learned of the famous Blue and White Ming Dynasty Porcelain. We discussed the discovery of porcelain and how the Chinese reluctantly shared their discovery with the world. The beautiful simplicity of the blue underglaze was a wonderful contrast to the porcelain.

The Chinese Dynasty most well know for its beautiful porcelain is the Ming Dynasty, 1368 - 1644. It is amazing to know that the porcelain of hundreds of years ago is still basically made the same today.

The subject matter of most Chinese art at that time focused on nature

Our project focused on subject matter from nature based on the East Asian belief that Man is rather small in the grand scheme of the world. Nature is much bigger and more important than Man, thus becoming the focus of much grand artwork.

Below are a few candid shots of students, grades 1st through 5th, creating their blue and white Ming Dynasty paper bowls.
