Dear Parents

I had considered not sending a newsletter today BUT…. Oh my, I have to tell you how absolutely wonderful your children have been. We had an amazing two days. Within the first 30 minutes we were analyzing a line plot we created. The children had estimated the number of toys on a poster. We worked on what it means to infer information from the data. Ask your child why I did not participate in the line plot!

We have a very full classroom right now- 21 students! I had a wonderful brain pop the other night and attached you will find a survey about how you can help in the room. (Thank you to a super parent for making me think about this!) Ask your child what a brain pop is, by the way!

I realize the book the children are reading might not be the perfect fit for each child but it was a way to get us started. We will visit the library on Monday and the children will be able to pick out a book of their choice!

IB NEWS

Our first IB study is called “Discover Our Community”. The Central Idea of this study is: People live together harmoniously in communities to best utilize their resources. This is an inquiry into: the History of Decatur, resources of the community, and a comparison of Decatur, Alabama to other Decaturs in the USA. We will be learning how a community works together, how leaders work  in the community, and how people rely on each other in a community. This works very well with the fact that we have come together as a classroom community! We have many new friends in the room and it is exciting to see how this develops. 

DON'T FORGET !

Nutritional Rules: We had a meeting about the guidelines on Wednesday and here are some answers to questions people asked me: 1. Cookies are okay for parties. The children may have 2. 2. Cupcakes are alright to serve. (Even with icing!) 3. No candy may be served. No soft drinks may be served. 4. Drink choices are 100% juice or water. 5. I think a cookie cake would be okay since one slice would be about the same as 2 cookies!
