Great news! The Doran Army is looking great and Boot
Camp is almost over. The first nine
weeks have been tough going from kindergarten to first grade. We have had to work really hard to learn
to read, but everyone is doing a fantastic job. We are reading everyday in class and 4
days a week with a Buddy. Each of us have already improved our reading, and are
still working hard to get even better. We take home vocabulary lists, and library
books to help get even more practice
reading at home. Children are
allowed to check out a new book each day.
We fill out at least one
book log each month. We are working in small groups and we are being assessed
on DIBELS to help Mrs. Doran create our lessons based on our strengths and
weaknesses.
Report cards will go out this month,
so we will be checked on high frequency word vocabulary lists and

this week. Remember to pay by check to the book company and to return the
order on or before the due date. |

AMSTI Theme this
month is Balance and Motion. The students will balance several objects and
learn some new terms. They will
discover wheels and balls and ramps and create their own roller coasters. |
In Math we will work with the dot patterns on dominoes. If you have any sets at home, get them out and use the dots as addition facts with your child. You can also count all the dots, then count & cover one side to subtract. There will be lots of addition story problems and card games coming home. |
