Julian Harris Literacy Lab

Welcome to the Julian Harris Literacy Lab. My name is Mrs. Joyce Terry, and I am the Instructional Aide in our Literacy Lab.

At Julian Harris, we are excited about our new computer program. The PLATO Focus Reading and Language Program is a developmental language and literacy program. It focuses on phonemic awareness (phonics). Focus systematically builds the processing and cognition of sounds and sound patterns, introduces the concept of visual imagery, expands vocabulary, and utilizes careful phrasing and intonation to strengthen auditory and reading comprehension in ways that complement and support existing school reading curricula.

PLATO Focus Reading and Language Program integrates the best of today’s technology with life-like 3D characters who model the production of each phoneme and clear digital audio that demonstrates the accurate pronunciation of new sounds and words. The lessons and activities are presented in an appealing and motivating scenario that engages and intrigues students.

Emma Readwell runs the PLATO Focus Reading and Language Investigations and needs help restoring the robots she’s built for the town of Bookerville. In her lab, she asks students to help her rebuild her robots and send them back out into Bookerville.
