Third Grade

Carly Ashcraft

WELCOME

Hello! I am Carly Ashcraft and I teach first grade at Banks-Caddell Elementary School. This is my fourth year to teach in Decatur and I am thrilled to be at this brand new school!

I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Athens State University. Later, I completed my Master's Degree in Elementary Education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I love going to school to learn how to be a better teacher!

In our class we start each day with daily oral language and then get started with reading right after that. I love to read and do it a lot at home and at school. The first book we read this year was Frindle by Andrew Clements and the class really enjoyed it. We read together frequently as well as independently.

We do calendar math every day of the school year which incorporates measurement, money, time, counting, and higher level thinking in all areas of math. As we are involved in the Mobile Math Initiative, we are constantly playing math games (which we really enjoy!), working with manipulatives, and writing in our math journals. Math is not quite as scary as we once thought it was.

ABOUT ME

I am not married but love to spend time with all of my good friends and family. We enjoy going to the movies and shopping. I like to cook and have my friends over to eat. One of my most favorite things to do, when I have time, is travel. There's a big world out there and I want to see it all! My friends and I enjoy going places on the weekends and going on big trips during the summer time when school is not in session.
