Updated 3/13/07 Somerville Road Elementary School is fortunate to be Partners in Education with Decatur General Hospital, First Baptist Church, and Westmeade Baptist Church. Different departments of Decatur General "adopt" a classroom, providing them with treats and goodies at holidays. The classroom, in turn, shares with the department different projects and activities that they are doing throughout the year. Also, each classroom gets to send one student over to the hospital every month to tour the hospital and eat lunch. There is a small awards ceremony after lunch in which the student receives a medal proclaiming him/her as this month's "Decatur General." We are able to use the hospital's vast storehouse of knowledge as a resource in the form of voluntary guest speakers. Some of the staff also comes over to tutor our students on a regular basis. Being partners with Decatur General Hospital has proven to be wonderful. Somerville Road is really fortunate to have so many people who care about us and are willing to volunteer their time and attention to us.
