My name is Leslie Dutton. This is my 6th year to teach kindergarten. I am the proud mother of my baby boy Gus. I received my bachelor's degree from Athens State University and I received my master's degree from the University of North Alabama.
In my class, we spend an hour each day working on phonemic awareness activities, phonics activities and sight word recognition. It is very vital for us to spend this amount of time on these activities in order to insure reading success.
We also spend a great deal of time focusing on MATH! After being trained in the Maysville/Mobile Math Initiative, I am now allowing time for my students to explore math through daily data collections, building number sense, recognizing patterns and calendar activities.
I also read many seasonal books and we participate in a variety of seasonal activities.
We spend most of our day reading, writing, and doing math!
