Mrs. Penley
Reading Specialist
I have lived in Dectaur, AL my whole life. I decided I wanted to become a teacher my freshman year at Decatur High school. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL in 1994, and I began teaching at Woodmeade Elementary in Decatur that fall. I received my Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from UNA in 1998, and continued to teach at Woodmeade until 2002 when we had our little boy, William. During my career I have taught Kindergarten, first, second, and third grades and some multiage classrooms. I have always loved teaching reading and was fortunate to receive Alabama Reading Initiative training in 1998. I was also a presenter for the ARI for five years training over 1000 teachers from around the state of Alabama. I am so honored to be at West Decatur Elementary now as the Reading Coach working with very eager students along with talented and caring faculty and staff members.
