About Me:
I am a native of Chicago, Illinois and have now made Huntsville, Alabama my home. I received both my Bachelor of Science and Master's degrees from Alabama A&M University. This is my fifth year teaching here at West Decatur. I have worked with Pre-Kindergarten students since the beginning of the program. I am an advocate of early childhood education, and I strongly believe in the importance of attending a Pre-Kindergarten program.
About the Program:
The Pre-Kindergarten program uses the Open Court Reading Program as our curriculum and the Get It! Got It! Go! Assessment. Our students attend school from 8:00-2:30. Students are equipped to master letter, number, and shape recognition. Students are introduced to patterns, phonics, rhyme, listening, comprehension, matching, story retelling, as well as early reading and readiness skills. All of the above skills are introduced and mastered through song, play, and plenty of repetition.
Our theme for this year in Pre-K is "Dora the Explorer" and our students are allowed as much exploration and manipulation as they deem necessary.
