Walter Jackson is the home of the mighty Jaguars. We have a school population of approximately 220 students. Located in Southeast Decatur, Walter Jackson has a beautiful large acreage campus with access to a softball field and tennis courts. Our school building was renovated in 1998, and we are so proud of our new library media center, music room, physical education room, health room, and offices.

Walter Jackson boasts a strong academic tradition. Our mission is to help nurture resourceful, self confident students who take responsibility for setting and attaining life goals so they can become productive citizens. We achieve this goal by having a highly dedicated, competent, and caring faculty and staff.

As an Alabama Reading Initiative Demonstration Site, we weave reading into every subject area. Our goal is for all students to read at or above grade level. Along with strong academics, we foster an appreciation for the arts. Our active PTA helped establish an art room which provides space for all kinds of creative endeavors. Our music teacher helps each class prepare a performance each year. Our students love it!! Many enjoy music so much that they become a part of the Walter Jackson Singers. Our singers give a special performance at least twice a year and go on tour to many local community service agencies and our partner-in-education, Regions Bank. Walter Jackson PTA has also sponsored at least one special cultural arts activity each month. We have enjoyed famous musicians, artists, marionettes,storytellers, and all kinds of wonderful events.
