School Highlights and Achievements
Austin High is proud to be a CLAS Banner School.
AHS consistently produces National Merit scholars. Students receive millions of dollars in scholarships in academics and sports. ACT and SAT scores exceed the national average. Ninety-nine percent of the senior class pass the Alabama Graduation Exam.
Students are deeply involved in community service. Austin Ambassadors collected 16,000 cans for the Can-a-thon. The Spanish Honor Society and Spanish Club provide gifts for local Hispanic children at Christmas. The ROTC and Student body sent relief supplies to Hurricane Katrina victims.
AHS has a strong partnership with 3M--Partner in Education.
Austin is the only school in the state to receive the Alabama Attorney General's Safe Schools Initiative Award for three
strong athletic program has produced state winners in many sports through the years. The varsity basketball team won 20 or more games per season for the last eight years. The current volleyball team set a new school record of 51 wins.
The JROTC program has had ten cadets selected to either West Point or the Air Force Academy in the last ten years. Cadets were awarded $528,000 in scholarships in 2004-2005. Twenty-five Cadets have attended Harvard University's Model United Nations.
AHS band has received superior ratings for Symphonic Band for 39 consecutive years. Numerous scholarships have been awarded to band members.
AHS Robotics Team has produced state and national winners in the BEST and FIRST competitions over the last four years.
Marketing, Business Education, Medical Care Careers, Drafting & Design Technology, and Consumer Science Departments are all Business Industry Certified. Automotive Technology and Drafting & Design Technology students placed in the top ten in State SkillsUSA and VICA competitions in 2005.
The Austin High Drama Department produces two full-length shows per year. After winning at the District Trumbauer Competiton, fifteen students went on to stated competition in 2005.
The AHS Chamber Choir was selected to audition to perform at the University of North Texas Jazz Festival in 2006. The Concert Choir will perform at the Walt Disney World Magic Music Days in 2006.
Austin's strong parent, teacher, and student involvement have consistently brought Alabama PTA awards to the school.
