Austin High School Alumni Foundation, Inc. Scholarship
Selection Criteria
- One Foundation Scholarship is awarded each year by the Austin High
School Alumni Foundation.
- The amount of the scholarship will vary each year according to the
amount raised by our annual scholarship fundraisers. The amount to be
awarded is decided upon each year via a vote by the alumni
foundation board of directors.
- The scholarship recipient is selected from senior class students
that have been nominated by members of the school faculty.
- The faculty members are briefed on the selection criteria and
given the opportunity to nominate a student they feel is deserving
of consideration for the scholarship.
- Once a student has been nominated, a letter informing the student
of his or her nomination and a scholarship application is forwarded
to the student requesting a copy of their high school transcript
along with a resume' and a 1 page essay describing the students'
academic and career ambitions following high school.
- When all the scholarship nominee submissions are received, each
application is reviewed by the Alumni Foundation Board of Directors.
The Board of Directors uses the selection criteria of: overall
grades and GPA, attendance, financial need, service to school and community and other leadership characteristics and qualities
displayed by the student.
- Upon review of all applications, each member of the Board of
Directors selects the nominee they feel is most deserving of the
scholarship, based on all selection criteria. If the selection is
not unanimous, the board opens a discussion dialog on each nominee.
Subsequent board votes are not taken based on the remaining eligible
nominees until a unanimous decision is reached by the board.
- The recipient of the scholarship is forwarded a congratulatory
letter via first class mail informing them of their selection for
the scholarship.
- The scholarship is presented to the recipient at senior awards and
honors night held each year in May at Austin High School.
- In the past years, the Foundation has received as many as 12, and
as few as 2, applicants in one year, but there is no set limit as to
the number of nominees each year. The Alumni Foundation Board
of Directors administers all scholarship funds via separate bank
Certificate of Deposit accounts.
- To ensure the proper usage of the scholarship monies, the
Foundation disburses a check in the amount of the scholarship
directly to the financial aid office of the school in which the
student enrolls. The check has both the students name and Social
Security Number on it to ensure proper tuition crediting
- A receipt is requested by the Foundation for the scholarship funds
and is kept in the Alumni Foundation Scholarship records file future
