National Honor Society

The Austin High School National Honor Society adheres to these policies.  Students in the eleventh and twelfth grades are eligible for membership.  A faculty council will be responsible for selecting students for the Honor Society.  The selections will be based on student's scholarship, leadership, character, and service.  To be eligible scholastically, a student must meet the following continuing prerequisites and requirements: must complete 4 units of English with at least 3 years of advanced classes.  Must complete at least 4 years of Social Studies including Alabama History, Current Affairs/Geography, World History, US history, Government.  Must Complete at least 4 units of science at Physical Science level or above.  Must complete 4 units of Mathematics at Algebra I or above.  Must take at least one unit of foreign language.  Elective courses will be averaged into your numerical average.  Must complete at least one year of P.E.  Even if a student has a 90 or above average he or she may not be considered for membership if poor citizenship is displayed in school.  This includes any area of campus and at all school organized/related activities.  Leadership qualities will be considered in the selection process.  Each November the National Honor Society will induct new members from the junior and senior classes.
