ART AWARENESS - 5134 (9-12) This course introduces students to visual arts and helps them develop an awareness to the contributions artists have made to society across the years. Students will learn to understand and critique art and learn about art history and the art of various cultures. This is an academic course (NOT a hands-on studio course) aimed at introductory level for students who may have limited experience with the arts.*Students completing this course will earn one-half arts education credit required for graduation. This course is one semester in length. This course cannot be counted as the prerequisite for any advanced art course.

ART I - 5130 (9-12) Students will learn to think what art is, what it isn't, and who decides. They will learn to describe and identify the visual elements and principles. They will examine composition, design and analysis. Students will explore art media and careers. They will think about the meaning of art and the history of world art. Students will also learn to evaluate any work of art. This is a hands-on studio course aimed at an introductory level for students who have interest and/or experience with the arts.*Students completing this course will earn the one-half education credit required for graduation and one-half elective credit. This course is one year in length, and cannot be taken for only one semester. This course is a prerequisite for ALL advanced art courses.

ART II - 5131 (10-12) Intermediate line and value drawing, intermediate painting, perspective and critique is taught in this course. Emphasis is placed on development of the composition, exploration of color and value relationships and their association with the quality of light. *Teacher permission required.

 

ART III - 5132 (11-12) A goal of the curse is for students to learn to draw expressively with human figure.  Advanced painting will include work from observation using the figure, landscapes, still-life & environments and art historical sources.  Basic principles of color, design, composition, structure, figure-ground relationship, line ,value, and form are applied to more challenging painting and drawing experiences. *Teacher permission required

 

AP ART- 5138 (12) The students will identify a single theme, develop it through sketches, journals, and individual and group critiques. a series of finished drawings and paintings will be completed. Students must be highly motivated and willing to devote the time needed to expand  and challenge their visual thinking process and abilities. Twenty-four works will be produced as a portfolio for evaluation at the end of the year. Prerequisite: Art I, Art II. *Teacher permission required. The student and parent/guardian must commit to take the Advanced Placement examination in order to receive AP weighted credit. The student and the parent/guardian will sign a contract to this effect and will pay the examination fee prior to the end of the second semester. Failure to take the AP exam will disqualify the student from receiving weighted credit.

 

GRAPHIC DESIGN - 7699  Students develop a basic knowledge and understanding of the graphic arts field, its processes and procedures, as well as the production of computer generated images and designs. The course concentrates on the designing of all categories of print media including flyers, brochures, book covers, posters, etc. Basic 2D animation and sequencing are also studied. Prerequisite: Art I. *Teacher permission required

 

PHOTOGRAPHY - 5610 (11-12) Students are introduced to photographic practices and techniques within a creative studio environment. The primary objective of the course is to provide students with intensive hands-on technical experience with B&W photography while also familiarizing them with the critical and theoretical debates surrounding photography in general. The technical challenges of each assignment should be met with maximum creativity as there will be an equal emphasis on the aesthetic dimensions of the work. Students will be asked to consider a wide range of new genre imaging practices, including digital imagery. .35mm camera required. It must be a Manual camera or an Automatic camera with Manual setting. Prerequisite: Art 1 *Teacher permission required. 

 

VIDEO PRODUCTION/WRITING/CRITIQUE - 5856 (10-12) This class will promote learning in the area of video production, script writing, and cinema critique. Students will write scripts based on industry formats and critique works by the past and present artists in the field of movie production. Students will gain knowledge of writing, producing, budgeting, and editing process of current cinematic markets. Student groups will write and select a script, produce and edit a video as a final project. Prerequisite: Art I or Drama. *Teacher permission required.
