LIFE SKILLS 100 - 7415 (9) is a year-long course designed to introduce students to the management of personal and family resources to achieve personal goals and health. Course content includes opportunities for students to explore consumer issues/responsibilities, etiquette/manners, and decision making/problem solving skills. Also, assess the components and life long benefits of sound nutrition and fitness practices to apply them to their everyday lives. The student will be required to purchase some recourses to be used in this course.

 

PARENTING & CHILD DYNAMICS - 7261 (9-12) is a year long course that assists students in acquiring the knowledge and skills associated with positive parent-child relationships. Topics include signs of pregnancy, child development, labor and delivery, birth defects, stages of child development, child health and safety, guidance and discipline of children, and career opportunities for working with children.

 

FOOD DYNAMICS - 7262 (10-12)  is a year-long course designed to study food and nutrition and provide laboratory experience in food preparation. This course includes the concept of nutrition, planning and serving meals, etiquette, manners, table setting, food safety, recipe and menu evaluation, food preparation, equipment, and career opportunities in the food service industry. Prerequisite: Must have teacher approval.

 

FASHION DYNAMICS - 7264 (10-12) is a year-long course for students who are interested in majoring in Fashion Merchandising and Design. This course introduces students to the selection and care of clothing and accessories for individuals and families, the laws, and legislation regarding the clothing industry, clothing repair and construction, wardrobe planning, the opportunity to explore historic costumes, research current fashion styles and trends, analyze fibers and textiles, design clothing and accessories, utilizing technology in fashion design, and explore career options in the fashion industry. The student will be required to purchase some resources to be used in this course. This is offered every other year. This course will be offered 2007-2008 school year. Prerequisite: Advanced College-level course requires Teacher approval and sewing skills.

 

HOUSING DYNAMICS - 7265 (10-12) is a year-long course for students who are interested in housing and interior design. This course introduces students to the selection and planning of living environments to meet the needs and wants of individuals and families through exploring housing options, architectural styles of housing factors that influence housing selection, housing legislation and regulations, ownership options, home construction and repairs, home furnishings and accessories, home maintenance, landscape design, elements and principles of design and blueprinting, space planning, furniture style and selection, home safety, environmental and energy issues, technology and career options related to the housing industry. The student is expected to purchase some resources to be used in this course.  This course is offered every other year.

 

COLLEGE 101 - 7678 (11-12) is a year-long course designed for the college bound student to help him/her prepare for the management and personal and family resources to achieve goals. Course content provides opportunities for students to explore the ACT/SAT, college applications, financial aid and scholarships, financial management, career planning, technology, and influences in a healthy lifestyle. The student will be required to purchase some resoursces to be used in this course. Prerequisite: 2.70 CPA or higher and college bound.
