FRENCH I
- 4100 (9-12) introduces the student to the French language and culture of France and other French speaking nations. Basic skills are stressed in the area of speaking, listening, reading, and writing in French. The acquisition of vocabulary is especially emphasized. Students will be expected to speak French in answer to questions and to participate in activities with other students.
FRENCH II - 4150 (10-12) Students build upon the vocabulary and basic grammar learned in French I to become more proficient. Student become more adept with language. Prerequisite: The successful completion of of French I.
FRENCH III - 4200 (11-12) Students will gain a higher level of proficiency. A study of French art and literature is included. Students may be required to purchase books and workbooks. Prerequisite: The successful completion of French I and II.
FRENCH IV - 4250 (11-12) Students will become highly proficient. Students will improve their communicative competence through study of French history, art, literature, and culture. Students must purchase French/English dictionary. Prerequisite: The successful completion of French I, II, and III.
SPANISH I - 4500 (9-12) introduces the Hispanic culture and the basic skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing the Spanish language. The student learns to perform basic functions and progress occurs through memorization, paired work, role playing, reading, writing and listening. Students must have a C or higher in English.
SPANISH II - 4550 (10-12) builds on Spanish I. The same types of instructions are used but students learn more advanced grammar and become more creative. Students must purchase a Spanish/English dictionary. Prerequisites: A C average in Spanish I is recommended.
SPANISH III - 4600 (11-12) continues to build communicative skills, review grammar, read and write creatively and gain more insight into Spanish culture and civilization. Students must purchase a Spanish/English dictionary. Prerequisites: The successful completion of Spanish I and II, and the recommendation of former instructors.
SPANISH IV - 4650 (12) is designed for the Senior student who wishes to continue the study of Spanish, but is not interested in A.P. credit. The content and format are essentially the same, however course work will include English to a great extent. Students must purchase a Spanish/English dictionary. Prerequisites: The successful completion of Spanish, I, II, and III and the recommendation of former instructors.
AP SPANISH - 4701 (12) course work is conducted primarily in Spanish. Content includes extensive reading of Spanish literature in Spanish, in depth study of Spanish and Hispanic culture and history, as well as composition of essays in Spanish. The student will exhibit skill levels of reading, speaking, listening and writing consistent with those in sophomore level college classes by the completion of this 4th year of Spanish. Students are required to purchase books and workbooks. Prerequisites: The successful completion of Spanish I, II, and III and the recommendation of former instructors.
