Business Education Courses
Entrepreneurship and Management - 7766 (9-10) This course is a one credit specialized business course designed to provide students with the skills needed to effectively organize, develop, create, and manage a business. This course includes business management and entrepreneurship; communication and interpersonal skills; economics; and professional development foundations. Instructional strategies may include the development of a business plan, a school-based enterprise, computer/technology applications, real and/or simulated occupational experiences, or projects related to business ownership.
Law in society - 7408 (10-12) This course is designed for students with basic legal principles common to business and personal activities. Topics include personal concepts to assist students when evaluation contracts, maximizing purchasing power through credit, purchasing appropriate insurance, and renting or owning real estate. Business concepts such as contracting, starting a business, hiring employee or contractor are included. Critical thinking skills and oral/written communication skills are reinforced as student's progress through this course.
Business Technology Essentials - 7800 (9-11) This course is designed to help students' master basic skills in the areas of formatting business documents and word processing. Students are also offered opportunities to identify ethical issues pertaining to information systems and to gather information about careers in technology, Communication and critical thinking skills are reinforced through the use of software applications. This class must be taken in order to take other computer classes offered in the Business Education Department.
Senior Business Computer Applications - 7801 (12) This course is for seniors who have not had keyboarding, No EXCEPTIONS. Using the touch system of keyboarding, the students will learn keyboarding, formatting, and document processing during the first six weeks. After the first six weeks, the students will utilize computers a business tolls through the use of Microsoft Office Professional including Access, Excel< and Power Point for databases, spreadsheets, charts, graphs, and word processing. This course will be equally helpful for students planning to enter the workforce immediately after high school or to continue their education.
Accounting Principles - 7175 (10-12) This course is to help students understand the basic principles of the accounting cycle. Emphasis is placed on analyzing and recording business transactions; preparing and interpreting financial statements, accounting, systems, banking, and payroll activities; identifying basic types of business ownership; and participating in a orientation to careers in accounting, Students are also provided with instructions activities that reinforce mathematical and critical thinking skills.
Integrated Computer Technology - 7407 (10-12) This course utilizes computers as business tools through the use of Microsoft office Professional including Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint of databases, spreadsheets, charts, and graphs, and advanced word processing. It includes analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating situations to complete tasks efficiently and effectively. This course would be equally helpful for students planning to enter the workforce immediately after high school or to continue their education. These skills are used in most businesses as well as for personal use. Prerequisite: Business Technology Essentials.
Advanced Accounting - 7180 (11-12) Advanced Accounting is a course designed to provide students with an increased emphasis on accounting procedures and techniques for solving business problems and making financial decisions. Students use accounting and/or spreadsheet software to record, analyze, and interpret financial records. This course provides students with entry level skills for the accounting profession and/or a foundation for post-secondary study. Prerequisite: Accounting Principles
Advanced Computer Application - 7153 (11-12) This course is an advanced computer class designed to develop advanced computer and employment skills using a variety of software functions. These functions will include graphics, desktop publishing, and multimedia to create a variety of business publications. Also included in this course, students will create and maintain web ages; prepare an employment portfolio which will include many different types of employment correspondence; prepare written and oral business communication' and utilize many other concepts to function effectively in a high-tech, changing environment. Prerequisites: Business Technology Essentials and Intergrat4ed Computer Technology.
Coordinated Studies For BE CO-OP I - 7204 (11-12) Provides business education cooperative education students with a common class to acquire and reinforce competencies required for hi8s or her on the job training. This class is for those business education co-op students who have not had Business Computer Applications. Prerequisite: Business Technology Essentials and Admission to the Be CO-op program by the Coordinator, Mrs. Hutchinson
Coordinated Studies for Be CO-OP II- 7205 (11-12) Provides business education cooperative education students with a common class to acquire and reinforce competencies required for his or her on the job training. This class is for those business education co-op students who have the Business Computer Applications. Prerequisite: Business Technology Essentials and Admission to the BE Co-op program by the Coordinator, Mrs. Hutchinson.
Business Education CO-OP - Period: 1st 7191, 2nd 7192, 3rd 7193, 4th 7194, 5th 7196, 6th 7197, 7th 7198 (11-12) Provides the student with work experiences in an office outside the classroom. The students must be enrolled in Related Study for BE co-op I or II while being employed in addition to Business Education Co-op. To participate in the program, a student must be 16 years old, have parental permission, have transportation, and make application to and be approve by the coordinator, Mrs. Hutchinson. The coordinator is the liaison between the school and the employer. A student participating in the co-op program has one year of physical education waived for each year of participation. In addition, the student receives one unit of credit for each period of released time to work. Prerequisite: Admission to the Be Co-op program by the coordinator, Mrs. Hutchinson.
