PLAN and PSAT Tests

The PLAN and PSAT are two practice tests that give families important information about how prepared their children are for college entrance exams.

The PLAN is the practice test of the ACT which is designed specifically for tenth grade students only. The PLAN test date has not yet been announced. The fee will be $10 to take the test.

The PSAT is the practice test for the SAT, a college entrance exam that is used by some colleges. It is also very important because it is the qualifying test for students to be considered for National Merit and National Achievement Scholarships Programs. Students can not compete for National Merit or National Achievement Scholarships unless they take the PSAT in their junior year.

Decatur City Schools is paying for all sophomores who have a grade point average of 2.5 or better to take the PSAT. This is the second year the school system has provided this opportunity to encourage our students to recognize the importance of the test. Taking the PSAT as a sophomore allows students to learn their strengths and weaknesses and to better prepare themselves for taking the PSAT in their junior year.

The PSAT will be taken Wednesday, October 17, 2007, 8:00 a.m.
