JROTC Creed:

Teams:
Drill Team
Members of the drill team perform various routines
with complicated maneuvers including spins, twists, and throws. The drill
team uses demilitarized M-1 rifles that are seventeen pounds each. The
drill team competes in the National Drill Team Competition and Alabama A&M's
drill competition.
Color Guard
The color guard members present the American and
state flags with armed escort at official ceremonies. They compete in the
National Competition and perform forty-five to fifty-five times a year.
Rifle Team
The rifle team competes in air rifle matches in NARL
rifle competitions.
PT Team
The PT (Physical Training) team competes with schools
across North Alabama. There is intense physical training involved and
push-ups, sit-ups, and running are their primary exercises.
Saber Team
The Saber Team participates in all formal events
using military sabers.
Chess Team
JROTC cadets challenge each other in a game of wits and strategy Chess holding
small tournaments.
Events:
NCO/OCS
Non-Commissioned Officer training (NCO) and Officer Candidate School
(OCS) is a vigorous two week training course in October where students are challenged
both physically and mentally in leadership, drill, physical training, and a
variety of subjects. This course takes part as the building block for our future
officers and possibly staff and commanders.
Military Ball
The Military Ball is the ROTC's annual formal dance held in early spring
at Redstone Arsenal's Officers Club that includes a formal sit down dinner,
guest speaker, followed by a night of dancing.
Austin High School JROTC Leadership
Symposium
This is a one week course where upcoming leaders are trained in the
process of leadership. This is done by bringing in local leaders every afternoon
to speak with the cadets about how leadership is used in their specific job
every day. This course is after school every day for one week in the spring.
Awards Ceremony
The annual Austin High School JROTC awards ceremony is later on in spring. Every
cadet will be called on stage and receive a variety of awards for their contribution
and efforts to the Black Bear Battalion.
