scholarship information and other information about colleges received by the
guidance office will be listed in this and future additions of the
“Scholarship Scoops”. Please

Better Business Bureau of North Alabama
– 2007 Torch Awards Scholarship:
FRIDAY IS THE DEADLINE – ACT
FAST!!! Scholarships of
$1,000.00 will be awarded. The
applicant must be a junior or senior at an accredited high school in Morgan
county with a desire to continue their education. The criteria for the award includes: Leadership 20% -
describe any extra curricular school related activities, Community Service 20% -
describe activities outside of school and within your community, Academic 10% -
enclose a copy of most recent transcript, describe post secondary education
plans, and describe awards received relating to your academic achievement, Essay
50% - write a 400 word essay on the importance of ethics in business and our
community. Discuss your viewpoints
and give examples, as applicable. This
information must be web submitted, postmarked or hand delivered by Friday
October 12, 5:00 pm. See

McDonald’s Scholarship & Tuition
Assistance: McDonald’s offers fifty, $1,000.00 regional scholarships,
and one $5,000.00 National scholarship. Mr.
White has more information in the guidance office.
Grant Initiatives – GE STAR Scholarships:
Does either of your parents work for GE or are they retired from GE?
Then you are eligible to compete for a selection process, and awarded a
one-time scholarship in one of two categories to defray first year higher
education expenses. The first is for attending a 4 year college/university and
the second is for those attending a 2 year community
college/vocational-technical school. See

The International Paper Courtland Mill –
Auburn University:
Are you interested in specializing in one of the pulp, paper and
bio-resource options in chemical, electrical or mechanical engineering?
There are scholarship opportunities available through APPF;
they will also be awarding one student the third Courtland Mill Auburn Pulp and
Paper Foundation Engineering Scholarship. To
qualify, students need to have high scores in math, chemistry, and physics and
have an ACT score of 27 or higher. On
November 7 at 9:00 am Auburn
faculty and Courtland Mill employees will conduct a lunch and tour of
the Courtland Mill. The dress will
be business casual and everyone is asked to wear long pants or jeans and closed
toe shoes as a safety precaution. If

Auburn Universtiy – Student Government
Association: The top junior and senior student leaders are invited to
participate in the 2008 High School Leadership Conference.
This year’s conference, “Lead the Way,” will be held February 14
– 15, 2008. You can visit their

to print off and complete the registration and hold harmless forms.
If you are interested in attending the conference you must have your
application to Mr. White no later than October 24.
The University of Alabama:
On October 23, from 9:30 am until 1:00 pm students will participate in
group seminars, meet with professors and students in both the Blount
Undergraduate Initiative program and well as the New College.
You will tour the Blount Living – Learning Center, and learn about
extra curricular activities available at UA.

Troy University – 2007 – 2008
Leadership Conference: The university will be hosting the Troy University’s
Freshman Forum Leadership Conference from October 28 – 29. Registration fee is $30.00 for students and $20.00 for
chaperones. The last day for
registration is October 15, so don’t delay see Mr. White today!
University of Dayton:
The university has been named a top ten national Catholic university by U.S.

Huntingdon College:
The college is located in Montgomery and offers a wide selection of
scholarships and financial aid. Huntingdon
is a Liberal Arts college. They
offer Academic and Honors scholarships, plus the United Methodist-Related and
Church Vocation Scholarships and Grants. They
also offer Awards of Circumstance, Federal and State Need-Based programs and
other grants and scholarships. If

Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, Inc.:
If you are a truly motivated, dedicated, involved high school senior,
then Coca-Cola will be awarding $3 million a year in scholarships to 250
deserving students just like you. Apply
online – just a few minutes of your time could help get you through college
and beyond. Deadline to receive
completed applications is October 31. If

AnyCOLLEGE.com:
They will be giving away $2,000.00 student scholarships four times a
year. All high school students are
eligible. All you need to do is
sign up by going to www.anycollege.com
and clicking on the “Win a Scholarship” link.
The ongoing deadlines for the scholarships are September 30th,
December 31st, March 31st and June 30th. This is a direct, user-friendly college search engine.
With no registration, students have direct access to their
