Scholarship Scoops October 19, 2007

This is the fifth edition of the “Scholarship Scoops” for 2007 – 2008.  Please read and share this information with your parents. All scholarship information and other information about colleges received by the guidance office will be listed in this and future additions of the “Scholarship Scoops”.  Please stop by the guidance office to request scholarship information.

 

University of North Alabama:  Do you love history?  Do you want the opportunity to win some money (scholarships)?  Three scholarships in the amount of $750, $500 and $250 will be awarded at the Tennessee Valley Historical Society’s History Scholarship Competition at UNA.  The competition is scheduled for Saturday, November 10, from 9:30 until noon in the auditorium of Wesleyan Hall; this is in conjunction with UNA Preview Day, which is scheduled for 2:00 pm that day.  If you would like a registration form and more information see Mr. White.

 

University of Alabama Arts and Sciences:  The Department of Theatre and Dance invites all high school seniors interested in pursuing a degree in theatre to attend auditions for departmental scholarships and admission to the acting area and musical theatre track, as well as well as a portfolio review for design/tech students, on Saturday, November 10.  Mr. White has the audition guidelines, application forms and program information.  You can also visit www.as.ua.edu/theatre.  All information must be returned to the Department of Theatre and Dance no later than November 5.  See Mr. White if you would like more information.

 

Auburn University:  They will be hosting their Minority Student Visitation Day on Friday, November 16, from 8:30 am until 2:30 pm CST.  Your parents are invited to attend also.  This will give you an opportunity to tour the campus, meet faculty and staff, and some of the administrators.  Lunch will be provided for everyone.  You must register by Friday, November 2.  You can do that on line at www.auburn.edu/cosam/diversityreg.

 

Prudential:  The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards has become the country’s largest and most prestigious recognition program high school youth who volunteer in their communities.  You have until October 31 to apply online through www.prudential.com/spirit or www.principals.org/prudential (access key: SPIRIT).  After you fill out the application you must print it out, sign it, and give it to your high school principal, who will select the school’s top applicant(s) and then certifies that individual’s application online at http://soa.spaprog.net and by fax.  See Mr. White if you would like more information.

 

Calhoun Community College:  Will be hosting their Technology Open House and Program Tours on November 5 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm and November 6 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.  Tours will start every 15 minutes fro the Center for Manufacturing Innovation.  You will have an opportunity to learn more about the educational and employment opportunities available in North-Central Alabama.  See Mr. White if you are interested in attending.

 

ALFA – Alabama Farmers Federation/Alfa:  They are pleased to make scholarships available to selected new and presently enrolled Auburn University students majoring in any curriculum in the College of Agriculture or School of Forestry, or to students majoring in Agricultural Engineering or Agricultural Education.  The deadline is December 1.  If you are interested in this field of study you can see Mr. White for a list of requirements for consideration for the scholarship.

 

University of Florida Student Government – Young Leaders Conference 2008:  This will be their first leader’s conference.  If you are interested in attending Mr. White has the conference rules, participant application, emergency contact and medical information, and the permission and release forms.  They have limited space; so they would greatly appreciate prompt registration.

 

Tuskegee University:  Are you interested in the ROTC?  The Tuskegee University Army ROTC is one of the top ROTC programs among historically Black Colleges and Universities.  The Army ROTC Scholarship covers tuition, $900 book allowance a year, lab fees and a monthly tax free stipend.  They also over free room and board to students that receive the Army ROTC scholarship.  Mr. White is available to provide you with a list of requirements and more information if you are interested. 

 

Burger King:  The 2008 Burger King Scholars Program brought to you by THE HAVE IT YOUR WAY Foundation will be offering a $1,000 scholarship.  They are available to all eligible high school seniors.  To apply, log on today at www.bk.com/scholars.   It is an easy online application process which began on October 15.  See Mr. White if you have any questions.

 

Gates Millennium Scholars Program:  Eligible students who receive a GMS scholarship have the opportunity to attend the U. S. accredited college of their choice for up to five years in any discipline at the undergraduate level.  If you think that you might meet the GMS qualifications and would like to be nominated see Mr. White.  The deadline is December 31, 2007.

 

The North Alabama Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers Alumni Extension:  They would like to invite high school seniors to participate in their 2008 Timothy Briggs Scholarship.  Three Timothy Briggs Scholarships will be awarded to minority high school seniors in the North Alabama area.  The Timothy Briggs Scholarship packet must be postmarked on or before January 8, 2008.  The winners will be recognized at the N AL NSBE-AE Fourteenth Annual Scholarship Banquet tentatively scheduled for March 2008.  See Mr. White if you would like to receive a Timothy Briggs Scholarship packet.
