Scholarship Scoops September 24, 2007

This is the third edition of the “Scholarship Scoops” for 2007 – 2008.  Please read and share this information with your parents. All scholarship information and other information about colleges received by the guidance office will be listed in this and future additions of the “Scholarship Scoops”.  Please stop by the guidance office to request scholarship information.

 

Troy University Leadership Conference:  Be sure and save this date: October 28 and 29.  The cost will be $30.00 and it will be an exciting and empowering experience!  More information will be coming soon.  But if you have any questions you can go on line to the University Freshman Forum at freshmanforum@troy.edu.

 

Alabama A & M University:  Will be hosting there annual High School Senior Day program on Saturday, November 3, beginning at 7:30 am, in conjunction with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).  You will have the opportunity to visit their academic displays, academic break out sessions, entertainment, tours of their campus, and a NASA onsite display.  A complimentary lunch will be served.  And you will be able to attend the football game at 1:30 pm against Jackson State.  Also, the acclaimed Marching Maroon and White Band will perform at halftime.  If you are interested in attending the Senior Day, please let Mr. White know as soon as possible.

 

William Carey University:  Carey provides generous scholarship assistance for academic ACT performance.  Athletic scholarships are available in: baseball, basketball, fast pitch softball, soccer, and golf.  Talent scholarships are available in: theatre, forensics, music, and art.  Church Related Vocations Scholarships as well as Baptist Student Scholarships are also available.  The Office of Admissions will also be hosting Sader Days throughout the year.  These events will be held on October 12 and on November 9.  In addition, Preview Day will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2008.  If you are interested and would like more information, please see Mr. White in the guidance office.

 

AXA Foundation: They are in association with U. S. News and World Report presents the AXA Achievement Scholarship.  They will be offering 52 $10,000.00 scholarships (one for each state, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico).  And $15.000.00 additional scholarships to 10 national recipients.  The national scholarship winners will also be offered internships at AXA offices and a laptop computer for college.  To qualify, you must demonstrate: ambition and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for self, family and community, ability to succeed in college.  Learn more and download an application at www.axa-achievement.com.   To apply the deadline is December 15, 2007.

 

The University of Alabama Engineering:  Will be hosting their annual E-Day on Thursday, October 4, from 7:30 am until 2:00 pm.  You will be able to have departmental tours, hands-on projects, freshman and transfer student information sessions, and a “Get to Know Alabama” fair with representatives from various offices across campus.  You will have a free BBQ lunch.  If you are interested see Mr. White.  Or to pre-register or questions concerning E-Day, please contact Lindsey Dill at (205) 348-2547 or visit their website www.eng.ua.edu.

 

Auburn University:  They have two exciting events coming up soon:  The Ag Exploration Day for our area will be held on Thursday, October 11 in Belle Mina at the Tennessee Valley Research and Extension Center.  It will begin at 9:00 am with demonstrations.  The local contact is Mr. Chet Norris (256) 318-4575.  You must let Mr. White know by October 4, if you plan to attend.  Also, the Auburn University Department of Chemical Engineering:  Would like for you to know that they offer approximately 25 Freshman Merit Scholarships to new freshmen who have excelled academically.  These scholarship winners are awarded scholarship funds for each subsequent year, if they maintain a high grade point average with good progress in the curriculum.  Applications must be returned by, but not later than January 1, 2008.  See Mr. White if you have any questions.

 

University of South Alabama:  Will be hosting their USA Day on November 3, 2007, February 16, 2008 and April 5, 2008.  USA Day is a special Saturday campus visitation day for prospective undergraduate students and their parents, held in the USA Student Center beginning at 9:00 am.  USA Day planned activities include: overview of USA, meet academic deans and faculty, financial aid sessions, USA Honors Program Preview Session, campus and residence hall tours, the office of admission will be open to answer questions regarding Admissions and Scholarships and other college-related issues, preview campus organizations, meet current USA students, all of this with a complimentary lunch.  If you can attend one of the USA Days, please contact the USA Office of New Student Orientation or you can register on-line at www.southalabama.edu/addmissions/gadreg.html.

 

First Sun Management Corporation:  They are our local Wendy’s Franchise operator, which they have been hosting your Wendy’s High School Heisman banquet for the last several years.  You can go on line to apply at http://www.wendyshighschoolheisman.com/index.asp.  The website also provides general Wendy’s Heisman information along with important dates to remember.  Student applications must be received no later than October 1.  If you are a winner an invitation will be mailed to you and the banquet will be held on November 6th at the Von Braun Center.
