2006

Decatur Daily Player of the Year

Meleana McCutcheon, 7th: Posted a 14-0 regular-season record at No. 1 singles and won the Austin and Benjamin Russell tournaments. Also won the No. 1 singles championship at the Class 6A, Section 6 tournament, becoming the first female tennis player from Austin to win the top sectional division since Tara Tiller in 1995. Reached the quarterfinals in her division at the 6A state tournament. Including tournaments, she finished the year 24-1.

Dana McPherson, Sr.: Posted 8-6 record this season at No. 3 singles and served as a team leader for the Lady Black Bears. Made the Class 6A, Section 6 semifinals in her division.

Tricia Collins, Sr.: Made All-Area for the third straight season. Played No. 1 singles and doubles.  Advanced to the semifinals in both singles and doubles at the 6A, Section 6 tournament.

Dana McPherson, So.: Compiled a 9-4 record at No. 4 singles and advanced to the semifinals of the 6A, Section 6 tournament.  Combined with teammate Jill Smith to go 10-3 at No. 3 doubles and make the semifinals of the section tournament.

Tricia Collins, Jr.: Won No. 3 singles at 6A, Section 6 and Austin tournaments. Compiled 10-2 regular-season singles record. Went 11-1 at No. 2 doubles with Megan Jones, reaching finals of 6A, Section 6 and Austin tournaments.  Made All-Area in 2002.

Megan Jones, Sr.: Combined with Tricia Collins to form powerful No. 2 doubles team, winning 11 of 12 regular-season matches. They reached finals of 6A, Section 6 and Austin tournaments.  Also won nine matches at No. 4 singles.

Kaili Meyer, Sr.: Won No. 1 doubles at 6A, Section 6 tournament with Stacey Schrimsher to qualify for state tournament.  Eliminated in first round at state.  Compiled 7-6 regular-season doubles record.  Also played No. 1 singles for third straight year, winning four matches against tough schedule. Made all-area in 2002.

Stacey Schrimsher, Sr.: Won No. 1 doubles at 6A, Section 6 tournament with Kaili Meyer to qualify for state tournament.  Also played No. 2 singles, winning five matches and advancing to quarterfinals of section tournament.

2002

Tricia Collins, So.: Went 7-4 while playing No. 4 singles and won the Class 6A, Section 7 championship in her singles division. 

Kaili Meyer, Jr.: Played No. 1 singles and recorded three wins against a tough schedule.  Also played No. 1 doubles with Pooja Aggarwal.

Stacey Schrimsher, Jr.: Played No. 3 singles and posted a 7-6 record.  Combined with Tricia Collins to form Austin’s No. 2 doubles team which recorded a squad best 7-5 mark.

2001

Catherine Betts, Sr.: Posted team best 12-1 singles record while playing No. 5 in the lineup.  Went 8-0 during the regular season against Class 6A, Section 7 opponents.  Reached the semifinals of sectional tournament.

Jennifer Skinner, Sr.: Won four matches against a difficult schedule while playing No. 1 singles.

Melissa Terry, Jr.: Recorded 8-2 season record at No. 6 singles.  Made finals in section tournament.  Won section title at No.2 doubles with partner Amanda Hill.

Colleen Hillis, Sr.: Played No. 1 singles for the Lady Black Bears for the second straight year.  Lead Austin to a fourth-place finish in the Class 6A, Section 7 tournament.

1997

Jasmine Gill, So.: Combined with Amanda Hill to score 8 wins at No. 2 doubles to be one of the most consistent doubles teams in the area.  Also played No. 3 singles.

Amanda Hill, So.: Combined with Jasmine Gill to score 8 wins at No. 2 doubles.  Also played at No. 4 singles and reached the sectional semifinals.

1996

Holly Rainer, Sr.: Was supposed to play No. 2 singles this year but was forced into the No. 1 spot when 1995 Daily Player of the Year Tara Tiller suffered a broken leg.  Also played No. 1 doubles.

Tara Tiller, Jr.: The junior won the Class 6A Section 6 tournament at No. 1 singles for the second straight year and advanced to the quarterfinals of the state tournament.  Made All-Area for the second straight season.
