My name is Joan Dougherty. I was born and raised in Decatur, Alabama.  My husband Frank, and I both graduated from the University of Alabama.  I received my degree in Special Education.  I have been teaching 23 years with the last four at Decatur High Developmental.  My husband received his business degree and is currently Vice President of Operations for Aviagen, Inc.

     Frank and I have been married for 24 years and have two wonderful children.  Rick, who is 20, is attending the University of Alabama on an academic scholarship.  He is currently a sophomore majoring in business.  Kate is a junior, she is also a varsity cheerleader, student council officer, and a member of FCA.

      We are all members of First Baptist Church and are active in the Special Needs Ministry.  We really enjoy spending time with each other and taking family vacations.  We love attending sporting events, both at the University of Alabama and Decatur High School.
