The kindness and devotion shown toward our son is more than we could have ever imagined possible. Teachers and classroom assistants at Decatur High School Developmental Program are fully dedicated to the betterment of the children. They really have made a difference not only for our child, but our whole family.

At Decatur High Developmental Program, students are placed in the least restrictive environment possible based upon their needs, abilities and life goals. The faculty and staff have a genuine compassion, dedication and love for their students that extends well beyond school walls. They volunteer their time, energy and talents in the community, making a difference in the lives of students and their families. They also work with Decatur High School to include the students in as many activities as possible. High School students work with and help teach students basic academic and functional skills as well as a variety of athletics. We have basketball and volleyball teams as well as cheerleaders! For us, the most exciting part of special education today is to see our teen with other teens that openly accept her as she is. This has been made possible because Decatur City Schools employs teachers at all grade levels who are not only teaching special education students but other students as well that we all should look at a person's ability - not their disability.

We love Decatur High Developmental. It is Special Education at it's best!
