PSAT / NMSQT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test / National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) This voluntary test was administered Wednesday, October 17, 2007. Sophomores and Juniors may take this test.

AP Tests (Advanced Placement Tests) These tests were administered in May, 2008.
Calhoun Community College Technology Camps for high-school girls: Calhoun Community College is holding two free technology camps for high-school girls this summer. The college and the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor the Summer Welding and Electrical Technology Camp on June 16-23, 2008. This camp for grades 9-12 is available to the top 20 applicants from the Decatur, Athens, Hartselle and Limestone County, Madison County and Morgan County school systems. Area high school counselors have been asked to select students to participate in the camp. Students will learn about the opportunities available to women in the technology-based work force of the future. The camp will also provide hands-on experiences in welding and electricity. The third annual Science and Technology Preview summer camp is July 14-18, 2008. Participants will learn about career opportunities in industries that take raw materials and transform them into finished products. The camp is free to the first 25 female students who apply. Pre-registration is required. The Center for the Advancement of Process Technology is the camp sponsor. Both camps will include presentations from women working in technical careers, hands-on experimentation and field trips to related industries. Hours for the camps will be from 9:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. each day. The application deadline for both is May 23, 2008. Seniors: Please remember when submitting college applications this fall to complete any additional scholarship applications that may be required. NCAA Scholarships: All rising seniors interested in registering for athletic scholarships must register with the NCAA Clearinghouse at the following address: http://www.ncaa.org. The NCAA guide for college bound student athletes is available, including coursework, GPA, and ACT score requirements. All college bound athletes need to review this information each year of high school to ensure compliance and eligibility. Alabama A&M University: Scholarships including full tuition, room and board, books and fees are available to Caucasian students entering as freshmen or transfer students through their Diversity Scholarship Program. The deadline for application is 30 days before the scheduled registration for the intended enrollment. The University of North Alabama Project OPEN: Project OPEN (Opportunities for Entry into Nursing) is to increase nursing education opportunities for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, including African Americans and other minorities underrepresented among registered nurses. UAH engineering camps: The University of Alabama in Huntsville will offer two engineering camps in June and July. The weeklong day camps are designed for high school students interested in learning more about the engineering profession. Camps will be offered June 9-13, 2008 or July 14-18, 2008 on the UAH campus. Fees for each session are $350 and include all activities, lunch, instruction, supervision and materials. Partial and whole need-based scholarships will be available. Calhoun Community College: Calhoun Community College is offering 75 full-tuition scholarships through its Tuition and Fee Waiver Grant Program. The state-funded program for economically disadvantaged students pays tuition and fees for attending Calhoun during the fall 2008 and spring 2009 semesters. The grant focuses on students who are Alabama residents qualifying for federal Pell Grants and Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants. Awarding of grants is first come, first served. The application deadline is June 15, 2008 for fall and October 15, 2008 for spring. Application forms and qualification rules are available at http://www.calhoun.edu. Wallace State Community College Scholarships: The Future Foundation Inc. of Wallace State Community College in Hanceville will award scholarships for students attending Wallace State during 2008-2009. Wallace State Future Foundation scholarships are available to graduating high school seniors, currently enrolled Wallace State students and, in some cases, dual enrollment students with financial need. These scholarships are currently available by through the Foundation: Future Foundation General Scholarships: Students may reapply to the foundation to receive consideration for additional awards in subsequent semesters. Bagwell Family Scholarship: For students attending community colleges within close proximity to their family business locations. Applicants must be enrolled in a technical program, demonstrate financial need and pledge to give back to the college an amount equal to what they receive over their lifetime. Scholarships are awarded for tuition and fees. James Bagwell Scholarship (Fall 2008): For students pursuing a four-year college transfer program. Deb Buettner Rotary Scholarship (Fall 2008): For female students who are business majors, with demonstrated involvement in community service. Richard Caretti Memorial Scholarship: Recipients must have an ACT of 20 or above, be enrolled in the AAS Flight Technology program, maintain a second class medical certificate and demonstrate financial need. Cullman-Jefferson Gas Scholarships: Applicants must exhibit outstanding academic credentials, leadership/community service, and demonstrate financial need. Listerhill Credit Union Scholarship (Fall 2008): For a student pursuing an A.S. degree in Business. REHAU Inc. Scholarship (Fall 2008): Applicants must be enrolled in a technical degree program or an A.S. Pre-Engineering program. Students must demonstrate leadership qualities, have a minimum ACT score of 21 and a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. WSCC Sonography Scholarship (Summer 2008): Recipients must have a GPA of 3.75 or higher on all sonography coursework, an “A” on clinical evaluations, and demonstrate leadership and/or community service. The Future Foundation will make loans to students to meet immediate needs for tuition, fees and books. Repayment of the loan is required within one year of disbursement. All students must complete and file a Federal Application for Student Financial Aid and have college or high school transcripts, a short essay and letters of recommendation. Priority deadlines for applications are May 1, 2008 for summer semester scholarships and August 1, 2008 for fall semester scholarships. Calhoun Community College Scholarships: Calhoun Community College and the Calhoun Foundation are accepting applications for scholarship awards for the 2008-2009 academic year. Scholarships are competitively awarded, based on criteria such as academic success, demonstrated leadership and community service. Program-specific scholarships are available, as well as valedictorian and salutatorian awards. All 2008 valedictorians and salutatorians living in Madison, Morgan and Limestone counties, and attending Lawrence County high schools in Calhoun’s service area are eligible for automatic, full-tuition academic scholarships. To qualify for these scholarships, students must provide documentation demonstrating they are first or second in their graduating class. The following scholarships are also available: any 2008 graduating high school student scoring 26 or higher on the ACT; Principal’s Choice Award, selected by each high school principal in the Calhoun service area; and Performing Arts/Student Activities scholarships. Students may complete one application form that will qualify them for consideration for all Calhoun Scholarships. The online application is available at http://www.calhoun.edu.
