IB MYP Authorization Announcement

We are pleased to announce that the Decatur High/Oak Park Middle School Partnership has been authorized to teach the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program effective immediately.  The schools were informed of this honor by Jeffrey R. Beard, Director General of the International Baccalaureate. Decatur City Schools has the honor of having the first authorized MYP programs in the state of Alabama.

While our eight subject areas provide the traditional foundation of knowledge, the MYP adds a program of international education designed to help students develop the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and skills necessary to participate actively and responsibly in a changing world.  Students develop the disposition and capacity to be lifelong learners, problem-solvers, and communicators.  They become aware of global issues and learn to act responsibly and with respect for others.

Congratulations to our students, staffs, administrators, Central Office, Board of Education, and community for this significant accomplishment.

Kim Qualls, MYP Coordinator, Decatur High School

Sue Lawton, MYP Coordinator, Oak Park Middle School
