About Mrs. Higgins
Mrs. Higgins has been the Title I Math Specialist since Brookhaven became a Title I: Targeted Assistance School for school year 2005-2006. This begins her eighth year as a teacher at Brookhaven. After earning her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Athens State Univerisity in 1999, she came on board at Brookhaven. She is currently working on her Master's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of West Alabama. Her passion for making a difference in the lives of students drives her career as she continues to grow professionally and expand her knowledge of all aspects of education.

AMSTI: Alabama Math, Science, and Technology Initiative (click here to learn more) MMI: Mobile Math Initiative 6th grade teachers attended a two-week-long training and 7th/8th grade teachers attended a week-long session over the summer to learn more about MMI and how to incorporate this hands-on learning process into the classroom. MMI is a researched-based program that encourages discovery learning and higher thinking of mathematical concepts through the use of cooperative groups, manipulatives, and think-pair-share. Our teachers will continue having monthly math meetings throughout the year to collaborate about what is going on in their classrooms and to get new ideas.
