Technology Integration in the Decatur City School District

In the Decatur City School District, we believe in establishing a learning community, encouraging teacher collaboration, providing continual follow-up support within a teacher’s classroom, and developing a culture that embraces technology innovations.   We must not only train teachers about various technology skills, but educate these individuals about the integration of technology in their respective classrooms.

The technology integration specialist would be assigned to a group of teachers to provide technology support and guidance.  This idea is similar to linking experienced teachers with novice teachers for professional development purposes.  A technology integration specialist guides teachers in the use and integration of technology in their respective classrooms.  The technology integration specialist takes on an assortment of roles in this coach-teacher relationship, including “reviewer, director, monitor, facilitator, and evaluator.”  One role is to troubleshoot problems with technological hardware and to resolve technical problems that the school may have.  The other role focuses on supporting teachers and administrators in effectively instructing their students using an assortment of technologies.
