Planning for Life After High
School
You have plenty of choices. The best choice is to go to college
for a 2 year or a 4 year degree. Many, but not all, of the highest
paying jobs require a 4 year degree; however, don't panic if
this doesn't work out for you. Less than 50% of students who start
college after high school end up graduating. What if this happens
to you, or what if you aren't ready to go to college or can't
afford it?
Have a back-up plan. Consider going to college for a two year Associates
Degree or a certification. These can be a springboard into a high
paying career. The top jobs over the next 10 years are in technical
fields such as computers, healthcare, and locally, industrial production.
You will need at least some advanced technical courses or college
to get these higher paying jobs. Some successful local workers pursued
2 year degrees or certificates, entered the workforce and started
earning money, then returned to complete a 4 year degree that was
paid for by their employer. The moral: Don't get discouraged and
give up if a 4 year degree doesn't work out immediately.
