About the PTC
Professional Training Center
The Professional Training Center (PTC) is the place from which
the district staff development program grows. Formerly a U.S. Post
Office, it is a 10,000 square foot building with a teacher make-and-take
lab, two computer training labs, a conference room, a Reading Recovery
training lab, and office space. We transformed this building in
1993 from an under-used facility to one that is bustling with productive
activity by gutting the inside and redesigning it with our staff
development vision in mind.
Teachers attend classes in the PTC almost everyday. Committed
to professional growth, Decatur provides a vast amount of release
time so that teachers can leave their classes with substitutes
and come in for training. After hours, teachers are welcome to
work as they choose in the make-and-take lab and in the computer
labs. The building hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through
Friday except for Tuesday when the building is open until 6:00
p.m.
