Alabama Science Safety Publication

Since the publication of the Alabama Course of Study Science (1995), the Alabama State Board of Education has adopted The Total Science Safety System, Elementary, ALABAMA edition (1998), to help teachers and administrators in the process of "planning, implementing, and evaluating the school science program." This is available in disk form at your school.

Safety Suggestions for Teachers

• Remind the students that they will not be using their sense of taste in this module.
• Warn students about poison oak, poison ivy and fire ants.
• Rules for going outside should be made and reviewed each time you go outside.
• Emphasize the need to keep fingers out of mouth while outside and washing hands upon return to building.
