Create a class mural or computer presentation of freshwater aquarium and add to it as the unit progresses; share a book about pond life with class, Pond Life by ________; create a drawing similar to the story ideas, above and below the water surface

Generate a list of other freshwater plants students have seen and have them bring in or draw pictures of these plants; add to class mural/presentation

Investigate plants that live in salt water:
How are they like the freshwater plants and how are they different?
Write about their favorite and compile into a class booklet

Start a large (at least 10-gallon) class aquarium; put in a variety of freshwater plants; visit local nursery for decorative pond plants -- floating hyacinth, cabbage hyacinth and feather plants generate interesting root growth and multiply easily; compare and discuss root systems

Language Skills: Organisms Poems; use selected poem in a poem folder and cover different language skills; suggestions of skills found at bottom of each poem
