Graph invertebrates: go on a scavenger hunt and carefully observe what you find; if possible count all the invertebrates and record on chart; analyze data

Language skills: Organisms Poems; use selected poem in a poem folder and cover different language skills; suggestions of skills found at bottom of each poem

Read Snail's Spell by Joanne Ryder; act out the passages describing what it feels like to be a land snail and act out the role of a water snail

Copy blackline master of snail outline and make stuffed puppet snails; write a short story and share; follow steps in manual for creating stuffed snails

Snail art:

  • Make paper snails using strips of three or four different lengths into circles; paste circles inside one another to form the snail's shell; cut a separate strip for the snail's body and glue shell in the middle; add pipe cleaners for antennae.
  • Make fingerprint snails; students make a number of fingerprints from a stamp pad; turn into snails and draw snail habitats; write sentences to describe snails
